Founders Meetings every Weds 5:30 – live/zoom

We met again this past Wednesday evening via Zoom and you can visit our notes here:  Meeting Notes
A regular meeting weekly meeting time was decided on.
When: Every Wednesday @ 5:30 PM
Where: Rotating location – 10/6 will be at Bri and Damien’s house in SE Pdx.  Please RSVP to Damien for the address if you don’t have it.
Virtual Option: Whenever possible we will accommodate a video call option for folks that are unable to join in person – The link will be sent out prior to each meeting
Facilitator: for 10/6 will be Jerrilee (we will have rotating facilitators – let us know if you’d like to be on that rotation)
Prep for Next Gathering: We’ve decided to start learning about Sociocracy as a form of group decision making (resources about Sociocracy).  We are going to read up more on this over the coming week and discuss further in future meetings.
Vision and Goals:
We are working on crafting and deciding upon the specific vision and goals of what we’re aiming to build with this work that we are doing.  Please feel free to visit the Fireseed Community Vision document here and bring thoughts to a future meeting.
It’s Naming Time!! We are actively seeking a name for our community, or at least a working name for now.  Please, put suggestions onto this file here.  Thank you!
While the Wednesday evening meetings will be more on the foundation pieces of starting a community together, there will also be regular gatherings where we can just get together and chill.

Meet & Greet Hanging Out 10/16/21 2pm

While the Wednesday evening Founders Meetings will be more on the foundation pieces of starting a community together, there will also be regular gatherings where we can just get together and chill.

From Orion, who is hosting the first one of these: Hey everyone! Let’s come together to chill out, talk about plans and dreams, and weave some community. Aiming for this to be less of a meeting and more of a hang out, and a good space to bring new interested parties.

When: Sat. 10/16 Starting at 2pm

Where: RSVP to Orion or Damien for the address.

Potluck! Bring something to share.

Shoes off in the house. Thanks!

Meet and Greet

Curious about the project or just want to meet an awesome group of weirdos? Join us for an afternoon hangout! Location: Westmoreland Park near the corner of SE Bybee and 22nd Ave, weather depending. Bring snacks and drinks if you like, we usually do a low-key potluck. Kids welcome! Let’s chat about community, sustainability, mutual aid and more.

Laurelwood Site Visit and Update

A rather large group of us spent Sunday the 12th out at Laurelwood Academy. We brought electricians, contractors, farmers, permaculture designers and more – and spent several hours touring the grounds and inspecting the buildings fairly thoroughly. The consensus is that it would take literally millions of dollars to get the property up to speed.

Additionally, we have learned through the due diligence process some unfortunate details, including an auction reserve that is much higher (but still unknown) than the starting bid. I believe the current owners are hoping to get $6-$7M out of the property, which is simply untenable – especially given the amount of time and money we would need to put into the place.

We are disappointed, but confident in the core group and our desire and ability to move forward to whatever comes next.
